Ayurveda, which means “The Science of Life” in Sanskrit, has its roots in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago, making it the oldest medical system. The knowledge of Ayurveda originates from the Rishis (enlightened sages) and was initially transmitted orally from masters to disciples, later being documented in the ancient Vedic texts.
Ayurveda focuses on preventing health issues by maintaining balance in various aspects of life, including diet, thoughts, lifestyle, and the use of herbs. The goal is to understand and maintain a harmonious balance of body, mind, and consciousness based on an individual’s unique constitution.
Similar to how everyone has a distinct fingerprint, each person has a specific energy pattern, called Doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha)a combination of physical, mental, and emotional traits that make up their constitution (Pakriti). Internal and external factors, like emotions, diet, weather, and relationships, can disrupt this balance and manifest as changes in one’s constitution (Vikriti) , leading to health issue, disorders and unfulfilled existence. By understanding these factors, one can take appropriate actions to minimize their effects, eliminate causes of imbalance, and restore the original constitution.
In Ayurveda, balance signifies natural order, while imbalance leads to disorder. By understanding the nature of disorder (unbalance), one can work towards re-establishing order (balance) within the body.
"Ayurveda is the science of life that teaches us how to live in harmony with nature and the world around us."
